10:39 PM

Today’s Weather: Sunny. High 22. 11 now.

This morning at the cabinet meeting at the White House, Department of Relief and Recovery brought it to the administration’s attention that the resettlement question will soon be revisited in five separate east coast cities. Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Baltimore. Essentially, the Northeast Corridor for those of you who might’ve been rail fans before the world went south. All five cities have been emptied and are protected by the military and various federal and state agencies. I totally forgot this is a matter the administration revisits every six months. It came about before I showed up on the scene.

I mean for all intent and purposes all five of these once great American cities are dead. DC, Philadelphia and New York for certain going by what I’ve seen firsthand and know. I can’t speak for sure about the Baltimore and Boston but I don’t see how either one can be ready for resettlement.

Nevertheless, government bureaucracy continued unabated. Studies must be conducted and the results analyzed to death. I get it. In the big picture this isn’t a major issue. But after yesterday’s request from the UN it does serve as s stark reminder that the United States has more than enough of its own problems to deal too. It is not just China that’s hurting.

8:30 PM

Today’s Weather: Cloudy with flurries. High 30. 21 now.

Megan and Alex returned home for their winter breaks this weekend. Between myself, Lori, my sister and now the kids, the house is suddenly bustling. I assume it will stay this way through New Year’s Day. Then Lori gets to pack everything up and move into our next new home, the official residence of the Vice President of the United States. Construction over there is just about wrapped up and we will start moving in around the 10th of January. My sister Bethany has agreed to come with us, thankfully. I’ve grown closer to her in the past couple months while her and Lori have become inseparable friends. When I accepted the new position, she was skittish about sticking around, believing she’d be a third wheel or something. Before September, 2022 that might’ve been the case. But things are different now. The American homestead has taken on a new shape and feel. It is not unusual to find multiple generations of the same family living under one roof now.

Tomorrow looks to be quiet. Meetings with the Congressional leadership in the morning and lunch with the president, followed by a briefing from FEMA about recovery efforts in the east. The president has said I need to choose a party before the end of January because once primaries start in the spring the issue will probably be blown out of proportion by the media. It has been too long since they had the opportunity to harass politicians over meaningless issues. Once the primaries start I expect them to sink their teeth in. Or maybe not. Things really have changed. Maybe how the media treats me will be a good barometer of exactly how much.

What’s On Tap For FDOA In November and December

Evening, everyone. I hope the weekend has been good to you. It’s hard to believe we’re just under two weeks away from Thanksgiving. Christmas will be here before we know it. Time flies, I swear.

So, here I am after a brief sabbatical from Final Days. The break was nice and gave me an opportunity to catch up on some other projects I have underway at the present time. But to be honest, I’ve missed Final Days and am eager to jump back in. I’ll start posting entries again on Thursday and try to maintain a pace of one post every 2-3 days. The first few entries will provide details about the world in the aftermath of Operation Blue Vulture. At home, the US government is moving to reestablish a semblance of normalcy beginning with nationwide elections set for 2025. Relief and recovery are taking precedence once again. However, following California’s attempted treason there’s increasing concern that other states might attempt their own secession in the near future. There’s also a loud minority of Americans who believe the eastern US should be permanently abandoned. There is even a rudimentary resettlement and decoupling plan gaining popularity. Those citizens wishing to resettle in the central or western regions of the US will be permitted to, while those remaining in the east would be stripped of their citizenship and the east coast would become a colony of sorts, subordinate to the United States.

Then there are the trials and tribulations overseas. China’s formal surrender and what shape the country will take in the aftermath of the decisive Operation Blue Vulture. Then there is Europe where the UN remains embedded in Geneva and Russia continues to lord over all of Ukraine, the Baltic States and Poland. NATO has broken up and so has the European Union. One way or another, the US will have to provide some type of aid as well as leadership to prevent Europe from imploding.

These are just some of the issues facing the US government and its newly minted Vice President Daniel Alexander Wertz. 😊

Final Days Will Return On Thursday, 17 November, 2022

Evening, everyone. So, I took a little time off to relax and figure out what my next move is going to be regarding the future of FDOA. I’ve narrowed it down to 2-3 ideas and will likely choose one by Sunday. Once I do, I’ll post a short entry and explain the direction Final Days will be taking until around Christmas. Sorry for being off the grid for so long, but I’m not closing up shop just yet.

Hope all of you have a great weekend! –Mike

Next Step for FDOA

I’m finally feeling better. 🙂 Now I can look ahead to the future for Final Days of America. I’m drawing up a big picture outline for what the next phase will include. I’ll present that on Monday. Between Friday and Sunday I intend to post the epilogue for this particular part of the journal. I’ll discuss the aftermath of Blue Vulture and the world it has created. Predictably, much has changed once again. Only this time, the changes are in favor of the United States. The country is still recovering from the September 2022 attack and its unlikely the US will ever return to the nation it was before then.

As for where we go after that, I’ll have the plan laid out and will present you with some information about it Monday evening.

Mike

Author’s Note: The End Is In Sight

Evening, folks.

Sadly, Final Days of America will be drawing to a close in the very near future. The plot has gone farther than I originally anticipated, but it cannot go on forever. The end is in sight.  As for what I’ll do with the finished product, that remains undecided. This blog began as a simple free writing project, nothing more. It has become an invaluable tool for several my other writing projects. Whatever I decide, I will certainly keep you all in the loop.

Now, for the journal. We’re down to the final six posts; 17-22 September, 2024. I’ll start posting these on Wednesday evening and try to get one post out every other day. At the conclusion of the journal, I will post a few entries to tie up the small number of loose ends that remain. From there we’ll see where things go.

I hope everyone has enjoyed reading FDOA as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. For a project that began life as nothing more than a warmup writing exercise, it has grown into something I’m very pleased with. –Mike

10:40 PM

Today’s Weather: Clouds and cool. High 73. 61 now.

Heavier rhetoric from the Chinese government today provided the backdrop for a naval skirmish between PLAN and Japanese warships in the Yellow Sea. Shots were fired and both sides retreated before the situation got out of hand.

We are beginning to get some indications of increasing communications traffic between a number of Chinese military command headquarters and Beijing. I cannot go into much detail on this, naturally. But suffice to say it is of growing interest to us here in Denver.

Final piece of interesting news. The Chinese ambassador here informed us a reply to Beijing’s demand will be expected at approximately 8 PM Mountain time on Sunday evening. I think both governments know what our answer is going to be and have factored it into the respective plans.

10:48 AM

The first reports from Guam and the Western Pacific are coming in. There has been a significant disruption of communications due to both Chinese and our own EW efforts. The information is limited, but its clear that there have been multiple instances of contact between US and Chinese air and sea forces since 9 AM local time.

11:37 AM

Missile Warning has been declared for Guam. Andersen AFB and the naval base at Apra Harbor.

1:09 PM

The largest naval battle of the 21st Century, and the heaviest since Midway, is going on west of Guam and the Northern Marianas. Air-naval battle, actually. Reports are still sketchy but from what we’re receiving here in Denver the following is certain: There are heavy ship and aircraft losses on both sides but the Chinese landing attempts on Guam and Saipan have been defeated. Two Chinese carriers have been confirmed sunk, however, on the flip side Reagan took three hits and damage control efforts are not keeping up with the fires. Heavy damage to Andersen AFB but the base is still operational.

2:00 PM

Unconfirmed reports of Chinese attacks on merchant vessels carrying relief and recovery supplies to US ports.

2:29 PM

NORAD is declaring a missile threat conference.

2:34 PM

Missile Warning for Honolulu. The VH-60s are touching down outside now. We’re headed to NAOC.

Quick Note For The Readers

Evening, folks! Apologies for no post today but my computer went south on me earlier this evening and I’ve had to reset it, reinstall all programs and find and/or replace a lot of my files. Time consuming and frustrating. So what I’ll do is start up again tomorrow on 11 Dec, 2023 and just make like the 9th and 10th vanished into thin air. Not my first option but sometimes a shortcut is necessary. Hope you’re all well. –Mike
